Gibson & Co., founded in 1715, is the oldest family run solicitors practice in the UK. Having modernised their brand, Gibson & Co. asked for advertising to help celebrate their history.
Delving into the past
Researching the brand’s past, I came up with an idea. Gibson & Co.’s founder counted the Earl of Derwentwater among his clients. He took the earl’s last will and testament in blood on his own sleeve as he waited for his execution for his part in the 1715 rebellion.
At this time, King George I succeeded the throne, and his supporters were known as ‘Geordies’. This idea led to the headline ‘Since Geordies have been Geordies, there’s always been Gibson & Co.’.
To create the press advert around this concept, I worked with the National Portrait Gallery to get the rights to use a bold portrait by Sir Godfrey Kneller.
